ACT I – LOST AND ALONE
Doris Morris is a purple and wonderfully grumpy senior cat who lives with the Morris family. She is adored by the children, Amy and Ted, even though her habits often cause trouble. When the family heads out for the day, Doris is left behind. Two bully cats from next door, Lizzie and Gangsta, sneak into the house, create chaos, and chase Doris into the garden. Terrified, she jumps into the back of a removal van which drives away before she can escape.
The Morris family comes home to destruction and assumes Doris caused it. Their frustration quickly turns to fear when they discover she is missing. The children put up posters and search the neighbourhood, refusing to give up hope.
Meanwhile, the removal van deposits Doris in a distant part of town. Disoriented and alone, she attempts to find shelter but is confronted by unfamiliar animals and unfriendly strays. A well-meaning local mistakes her for a stray and delivers her to Wendown Animal Sanctuary. The facility is run by Maud, who neglects the animals while spending their donation money on herself.
Inside Wendown, Doris meets Lionel the llama, Cassidy the three-legged dog, Taloola the short-sighted tortoise, Dick the rabbit, and Webby the spider. The group share stories of their pasts and the poor treatment they receive at the sanctuary. Doris longs for her family and begins to dream of escape. Her determination inspires the others, and together they start to plan a way out.

ACT II – THE GREAT ESCAPE
At home, Amy and Ted keep searching and calling for Doris. Their parents try to comfort them, but the family fears she may never return.
At Wendown, Doris observes Maud’s routine and realises she leaves the animals unattended for long periods. Doris convinces the group that escape is possible if they work together. Each animal offers a unique skill. Rat can chew through metal. Lionel can lift others to high places. Taloola has knowledge of hidden corners. Cassidy is brave and quick when he needs to be. Webby can produce strong webs when he is nervous.
When Maud drives away, the group acts. Webby produces silk to create makeshift ropes, Rat gnaws through barriers, Lionel lifts the smaller animals, and together they break through the outer fence. They escape into a snowy night, followed by Lily, Maud’s neglected little dog.
Their journey is long and challenging. They take shelter in a garden centre, narrowly avoid a security guard, and later stumble into a music venue where they hide inside musical instruments for warmth. The next morning the instruments are loaded onto the stage for a charity concert. When the animals spill out under the bright lights, the crowd reacts with surprise and delight. Photographers take pictures, and someone finally recognises Doris from the missing posters.
ACT III – COMING HOME
News reaches the Morris family, who rush to the venue. The reunion is emotional as Doris runs into Amy and Ted’s arms. The other animals wait behind her, unsure of their fate, until Doris makes it clear she wants them with her. Moved by the loyalty among the group, the Morris family brings all of them home.
Soon after, an investigation exposes Maud’s neglect and Wendown is shut down. With reward money and Mr Morris’s redundancy payout, the family purchases the sanctuary and rebuilds it into a warm, welcoming refuge for animals in need.
In the final scenes, snow falls over the newly restored sanctuary. The animals explore their new home, Doris watches proudly, and Cassidy and Lily celebrate a small wedding while Webby creates a delicate veil of silk. Doris settles beside the children, finally safe and surrounded by family, old and new.
