Doris Morris – The Grumpy Heroine
Purple, fluffy, and twenty years old, Doris Morris is a cat with plenty of opinions. She loves tuna, naps, and being the centre of attention — but is forever caught in trouble with fur balls, muddy paws, and a stubborn streak. Sarcastic, dramatic, and fiercely expressive, Doris often scowls at her humans, only to purr when Amy or Ted show her affection.
Suggested Voices: Olivia Colman, Emma Thompson, Daisy May Cooper.

Gangsta & Lizzie – The Bullies Next Door
Together, Gangsta and Lizzie form a troublesome pair — partners in crime and a constant thorn in Doris’s side. Gangsta is a swaggering ginger tomcat who revels in menace, pretending to be a stray while secretly enjoying the comforts of an indulgent owner. Lizzie, a slender pedigree with little fur, is vain, stylish, and easily chilled. She decorates herself with stolen scarves and jewellery, following Gangsta everywhere as his self-appointed queen.
Suggested Voices: Gangsta – Nick Frost, James Corden. Lizzie – Helena Bonham Carter, Jameela Jamil.
Amy & Ted – The Children
Amy (4) is a bright, girly girl who adores Doris, brushing her fur, dressing her in bows, and laughing at her fluff. Ted (8) is more practical, building cardboard houses for Doris and dreaming of becoming a delivery van driver. Together, the siblings form Doris’s true allies: they protect her from blame, help trap the bully cats, and are the heart of her family bond.
Suggested Voices (narration or older versions): Child actors to be cast; narrators like [to be discussed] could frame their story.

Supporting Characters – The Ensemble
In the animal sanctuary and beyond, Doris meets a colourful cast who add humour, heart, and texture to her journey. Each brings their own quirks and moments of surprise:
- Lionel the Llama – An eccentric but wise figure, Lionel is known for his dramatic spit and his odd habit of wearing lipstick. He becomes an unlikely source of guidance for Doris in the sanctuary. (Suggested Voice: Bill Nighy)
- Cassidy the Three-Legged Dog – Brave and loyal, Cassidy puts on a tough front but is deeply insecure about his missing leg. His courage inspires Doris and the others to push forward despite their flaws. (Suggested Voice: [to be discussed])
- Webby the Farting Spider – Nervous and anxious, Webby panics easily and often embarrasses himself, but in key moments his sticky webs prove unexpectedly helpful. (Suggested Voice: [to be discussed])
- Taloola the Tortoise – Slow and reflective, Taloola carries herself with dignity yet is secretly vain, polishing her shell and admiring her own reflection whenever she can. (Suggested Voice: [to be discussed])
